Audience: This learning path is designed for all roles involved in the process of taxonomy design, instrumentation, and governance. 

This series of three courses is designed to take you through the cycle of data creation and introduce frameworks, resources, and essential Amplitude tools to help you be successful at each step. You will go through the Fundamentals of Data Taxonomy Design, the Instrumenting Your Data Taxonomy, as well as the Data Governance and Maintenance Best Practices courses. The Getting Started with Amplitude Data is not a prerequisite for this learning path; however, the Amplitude Data product will be referenced as a tool where appropriate. By the end of this course, you will have a solid foundation for getting and maintaining useful data into Amplitude, including knowledge of the following:

Part 1: Fundamentals of Data Taxonomy Design

  • Different ways to approach what events and properties to track
  • Best practices for how to design a good taxonomy
  • How to teach and learn your taxonomy

Part 2: Instrumenting Your Data Taxonomy

  • Ways you can send data to Amplitude
  • How Amplitude resolves anonymous users 
  • Why and how to set User IDs
  • How to set and update user properties
  • High-level strategies for validating and debugging instrumentation

Part 3: Data Governance and Maintenance Practices

  • The data governor's three broad areas of ownership as recommended by Amplitude
  • Methods to scale taxonomy education at your organization so new consumers of data can quickly begin to create their own analyses
  • Methods to establish instrumentation standards that will help preserve data cleanliness and usability
  • How to audit your data health to identify inaccurate or unhelpful data
